The musical interest is a part of the family heritage. His grandfather Arthur Österwall and his brother Seymour Österwall and sister Irmgard Österwall created a part of the history in Swedish Jazz between the 30's and 40's. The interest for listening to and discovering new music was the reason he wanted to become a trainee at Intersong Förlagen AB during the last year in high school. There he met Stefan Eklund who later started BMG Music Publishing Scandinavia AB in Sweden. In 1990 Stefan needed someone doing both copyright and A&R which was a great opportunity to change from programmer at Siemens AB to work in the music buisness.
